Social participation that feels genuine and comfortable.
Social participation can involve a group activity, creative program, recreation, community event or a shared interest. The value comes from the participant feeling included and able to engage in their own way.
We discuss communication preferences, group size, sensory considerations, accessibility, travel and the level of preparation that would help the participant feel comfortable.
How this support is planned
Suitable activities are explored with the participant. We clarify expectations, access needs, costs, transport and how support should respond if the participant wants a break or decides not to continue.
Before support begins, responsibilities, boundaries, scheduling, costs and communication arrangements should be documented clearly. Support is then reviewed when goals, needs or practical circumstances change.
