Skills developed through real life and real goals.
Life skills support may focus on planning, communication, meal preparation, budgeting routines, using transport, organising the week or making everyday decisions. The specific focus is guided by the participant.
Skills can be practised in familiar settings and broken into manageable steps. Support should recognise progress without creating pressure or taking over tasks the participant wants to learn.
How this support is planned
We identify the goal, the participant’s current strengths, the barriers involved and a practical way to practise. Progress is reviewed through the participant’s experience, not only completion of a task.
Before support begins, responsibilities, boundaries, scheduling, costs and communication arrangements should be documented clearly. Support is then reviewed when goals, needs or practical circumstances change.
