Community access built around purpose, not simply an outing.
Meaningful participation starts with the participant’s interests and goals. An activity should have a reason that matters to the person, whether that is enjoyment, confidence, learning, friendship, health or greater independence.
IFA Support Services plans community participation across Brisbane with attention to accessibility, transport, communication, sensory needs, timing and the level of support the participant wants before, during and after the activity.
How this support is planned
We discuss interests, preferred locations, access needs, costs, transport, safety considerations and what success would look like. New activities can be introduced gradually and reviewed without pressure.
Before support begins, responsibilities, boundaries, scheduling, costs and communication arrangements should be documented clearly. Support is then reviewed when goals, needs or practical circumstances change.
